Greenhouse Photobioreactors

The off-season arrived a month early in September 2013 in the Pacific Northwest, with rainy, cloudy and cool weather limiting algae production. To extend the growing season, the Olympia microfarm testbed evaluated heating and lighting system protocols. The summer season covered greenhouse was transformed into a photobioreactor with heat and lights to encourage growth during the off-season. Last harvest of the 2013 season was on December 1, before taking the production ponds down for the next three cold winter months.
